Alys Gilbert MA Fine Art | Edinburgh | Fine Art & Art History
Founder of The Uniform, Surface Pattern Designs
I suppose if I had to describe myself in a sentence I’d say I’m a surface pattern designer in a Fine Art student’s body. I care about Art History and Fine Art as much as I do Textiles and it’s various outputs. For the entirety of my Art Foundation and first year at ECA I perceived this to be a problem but I’ve changed my mind.
My course-identity crisis has led me to carve a path for myself and where this might have scared me before, I now feel nothing but positivity in going this alone.
The Uniform is a surface pattern design brand with a new perspective, one that draws on the works of Art History as much as it does present day design trends. I’m going to discover what can happen when I throw these different working styles together.
This next year will, if all things go to plan, lead me to having my own stall at the prestigious Stockbridge market in Edinburgh.
A change is a good as the rest; why not join me for the journey?
